electricity generation. Coal or heavy oil
usage in the region is negligible. As a rural region there is some domestic use of fire
wood.
The retail and commercial part of New Plymouth lies towards the foreshore. The
residential areas on the inland side of the city are located on rising ground. The
building on the roof of which the sampler was located, the New Plymouth District
Council offices, is a three-storey building. However, houses to the south are at
similar or higher altitudes because of
carried out at the Kupe Production Station in the 2017-2018 year. The following was

The stormwater system was clear of contaminants after significant rainfall over the weeks prior. The wetland
area and fire water ponds were clear.
Minimal flaring was occurring at the time of the inspection and the emission controls for flaring were
effective with no smoke or odours noted.

Nova Energy Ltd (the Company) operates a gas fired power plant, the Junction Road Power Plant (JRPP). It is
located at 688 Junction Road, New Plymouth, in the Waiwhakaiho catchment. The facility is composed of
two 50 MW power output gas turbine peaker plants. The site was formerly operated by Todd Generation
Ltd. This report is the first report for the site under the name of Nova Energy Limited and the second report
in relation to this activity.
During the monitoring period, the
childhood centres and the one tertiary education
centre in Taranaki that have registered for New
Zealand Shakeout 2015. At the time of writing
1.1 million New Zealanders are registered to take
part, which is a great effort. Congratulations to
the educational institutions that regularly plan
and practice earthquake and fire drills.

X School) and Max Priest (NPBHS) who each won

Todd Energy holds water abstraction permit 1226-1 to take water from the Mangahewa
Stream for process, fire fighting and domestic purposes associated with operation of
the McKee Production Station. This permit was originally issued on 14 March 1984
under the Water and Soil Conservation Act 1967 to Petroleum Corporation of NZ Ltd. It
was transferred to Shell Todd Oil Services Ltd on 10 April 2002, to Todd Taranaki Ltd
on 31 May 2006 and, finally, to Todd Energy on 15

Why the Council approved the project
In a nutshell, the central questions facing the Council were: Does Taranaki need

joined over forty other students in Wellington.
Their experiences were presented to a recent
Taranaki Regional Council meeting. It was
obvious they had a fun filled, inspirational and
enjoyable five days.
It is my guess and indeed my hope that schools
regularly practise earthquake and fire drills as
part of their emergency preparations. Certainly,
in my over thirty years as a practising teacher,
I can recall many
collision, or has had
a major fire on board.
Act means the Maritime Transport Act 1994.
Bylaw means the Taranaki Regional Council Navigation Bylaws for Port Taranaki and its
Approaches 2020 (and for the avoidance of doubt, includes the most recent version of the
Maritime Rules Part 91 Navigation Safety Rules and Part 22 Collision Prevention, prepared
by Maritime New Zealand, with all necessary modifications and exceptions).
