The Council plays a key role in regional transport, both in service delivery and in planning and advocacy.
Regional Land Transport Plan 2024-2027
This Plan, adopted in June 2024, sets out Taranaki's strategic direction, priorities and proposed land transport activities for the three years to 30 June 2027, giving approved organisations and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency a platform from which to bid for National Land Transport Fund allocations. It includes the region’s long-term land transport aims, the immediate priorities for improving safety, increasing mode shift and improving reliable connectivity.

The Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) 2025 was adopted by Council on 1 April 2025 and is effective from 2 May 2025.
The RPTP is the first of the two-part Better Travel Choices for Taranaki initiative to be finalised. The next component, the Better Travel Choices Strategy 2025, places public transport in the wider context of integrated mode shift away from private vehicles. This is expected to be finished in mid-2025.
The development of this RPTP was complex and there were a wider range of processes and consultations which fed into its preparation. So, in addition to the RPTP itself, key documents which contributed to developing the RPTP are provided here for ease of reference:
