Taranaki reefs are exposed to high energy wave and wind conditions. Prevailing south westerly winds from
the Tasman Sea, not weakened by land barriers or local irregularities of the coastline, can be persistent. The
dominant wave direction is from the west, which results in considerable sand movement as waves strike
much of the coast obliquely. The sand is
number of significant
changes to regional transport planning and funding. Under these
changes, regional land transport strategies and regional land transport
programmes were replaced by a new single regional planning
document – the regional land transport plan, which combines elements
of both former documents.
The first such plan for the region, the Regional Land Transport Plan for
Taranaki 2015/16–2020/21 (the Plan or RLTP), was developed during
2014/15 and approved

underlying landform is of LUC class 4s1, with Uia sandy loam soils. The site is located in the Egmont
Ecological district, and the ecosystem type for this area has been mapped as MF8-2, Rimu, rata, kāmahi
forest (Singers 2016), less reduced or intact, with 68% remaining (Leathwick, 2017). The structure of the
vegetation at the site, as surveyed in the field, is dominated by a canopy of established regenerating
kamahi, with tawa, rimu, miro and kahikatea becoming apparent in the
