categories was almost half that of the previous season. Of note, very few high counts were
recorded during the 2010-2011 season. Fewer exceedances of MfE guidelines (‘Alert’ and
‘Action’) modes were coincidental with drier early season conditions and a reduction in
dairy shed pond systems treated wastes discharge rates noted from field inspections during
that time.

Evaluation of environmental and administrative performance
Besides discussing the various details of the performance and extent of compliance by the Company, this
report also assigns them a rating for their environmental and administrative performance during the period
under review.
Environmental performance is concerned with actual or likely effects on the receiving environment from the
activities during the monitoring year. Administrative performance is concerned with the Company’s
the refinement of methods, to move closer to
achieving sustainable development of the region’s resources.
1.1.3 Evaluation of environmental and consent performance

the national bathing guideline, and this is a lower rate of non-compliance than in the
previous two years. Of the 14% of samples that exceeded the guideline, 10% arose from just
two sites- the two New Plymouth urban sites. Bird life was mainly responsible for the
exceedances at these sites, where on occasions recreationalists have fed the birds.

1.1.4 Evaluation of environmental and administrative performance
Besides discussing the various details of the performance and extent of compliance by the Company, this
report also assigns them a rating for their environmental and

excludes low density free-range poultry.
Low density free range poultry means the keeping, rearing or breeding of poultry (whether
for the purpose of raising poultry for human consumption or for egg production) where:
birds have permanent access to open air runs;
permanent vegetation cover exists on the land where birds are permitted to range;
the stocking rate of the runs to which the birds have access does not exceed 1.5 birds
including chickens
