included in a separate biennial report (Northern
Quarries compliance monitoring report), which will also cover the period July 2022 to June 2024. Civil
Quarries Ltd’s Everett Road quarry is reported on separately.
For each quarry, this report describes the monitoring programmes implemented by the Council to assess

8.3 The facility could still be used to carefully store effluent, but the effluent would need
to be pumped out and transported to a licenced facility for discharge.
8.4 There are serious safety concerns created by having this facility closed including
effluent overflowing from trucks on to roads and associated environmental impacts.
8.5 It was agreed that the Chief Executive write a letter to Waka Kotahi New Zealand
Transport Agency formally notifying the Council’s
processing plant situated on Waiinu Beach Road at
Waitōtara, in the Waitōtara Catchment. The monitoring period coincides with the plant’s processing season.
The report includes the results and findings of the monitoring programme implemented by the Council with
respect to the consents held by the Company. These relate to abstraction of ground and surface water,
discharge of wastes by spray irrigation to land, discharge of stormwater and cooling water in the Waitōtara
Catchment, and the air

Executive summary
Greenfern Industries Ltd (the Company) operates a hydroelectric power station located on Normanby Road
at Okaiawa, in the Waingongoro Catchment. Utilising an existing weir across the Waingongoro River and
tunnel under Normanby Road, water is diverted for electricity generation. The station is located
approximately 3.2km downstream of the weir, but due to the
of the trap
and down the branch to draw rats into the
trap. Blaze dusted below the trap on the
branch is also a good rat attractant.
Ferrets
ROAD EDGES
Ferrets are often found along roads as they
like to scavenge roadkill. Try placing traps in
verges and culverts along road edges.
EDGES OF FARMLAND
Ferrets often thrive along the edges of
farmland as they have some cover but
are still close to their preferred prey. Try
to protect bush blocks by placing devices
