There has been no discharge of refuse to the landfill since 2006.
A third party currently holds a consent to discharge chromated copper arsenate (CCA) contaminated soil from
the old Fazackerly timber treatment plant site as base fill to the landfill for re-contouring purposes3 (under the
supervision of SDC). This consent has been exercised. However, due to an excess of clean overburden, further
re-contouring is required.

shrubs. The mahi by Brian is restoring the native ecosystem and eradicating weeds which is helping native fauna to return. Brian has co-ordinated planting at an old dairy factory in the township and Hurst Park and is a driving force behind eliminating invasive weed species around the Ōpunake Loop Trail. Key to the success of Brian’s work is his people skills which has helped motivate volunteers to clean up areas, pull out weeds and plant native species. Collaborations include St Joseph’s Primary

Pattle Delamore Partners Limited has released a report of a study of the levels of dioxin (more
correctly 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin) in soil at residential properties in the New Plymouth
suburb of Paritutu.
District Council (NPDC) operates a regional landfill located on Colson Road, New
Plymouth, in the Waiwhakaiho catchment. During the year under review, the landfill was continuing to fill
Stage 3 of the site which has a design capacity of approximately 800,000 m3. Stages 1 and 2 have been
closed and are fully reinstated. This report for the period July 2020 to June 2021 describes the monitoring
programme implemented by the Taranaki Regional Council (the Council) to assess NPDC’s environmental
