Executive summary
Waste Remediation Services Ltd (WRS) operates a drilling waste landfarm (Waikaikai Landfarm)
Taranaki Regional Council is working to eradicate pest plants from 570 sites around the region – about three times as many as six years ago. That’s excellent news, according to Council Environment Services Manager Steve Ellis. “To get rid of pest plants, we have to know where they are. Most of the sites identified recently would have been quietly spreading and getting worse for many years. Paying the correct
Dry conditions in South Taranaki caused by the current La Nina weather pattern could mean further restrictions on how much water can be taken from rivers, Taranaki Regional Council has warned. The environmental watchdog is keeping a close eye on rainfall levels, soil moisture, river flows and climate across the region, with most of the Council’s monitoring sites recording less rain than usual over the last three months. Council data for the lowest rainfall sites shows Pātea recorded 61% of

Silver Fern Farms appreciates this opportunity to provide feedback on the Proposed
Coastal Plan for Taranaki.

flows were 8.1% lower, and high flows 82.6% lower than typical values while mean river (non-mountain) water temperatures were 19°C, an average of 0.9°C warmer than long-term values. The average air temperature for the region (excluding Te Maunga sites) was 18°C, which is 0.5°C warmer than long-term February averages. The maximum air temperature recorded was 28.8°C at Inglewood at Oxidation Ponds on 7 February. February average wind speeds were 11.2km/hr, with average gust strength of 35.4km/hr,
