Sections 15(1)(b) and (d) of the RMA stipulate that no person may discharge any
contaminant onto land if it may then enter water, or from any

Cheal Petroleum Ltd holds water discharge permit 4727-2 to discharge treated stormwater and produced
water from hydrocarbon exploration and production operations at the Cheal-A wellsite and Cheal
Production Station, onto and into land in circumstances where it may enter an unnamed tributary of the
Mangawharawhara Stream. This permit was issued by the

Todd Petroleum Mining Company Limited
Basin occupies an area of approximately 100,000 square kilometres and
is the most explored and commercially successful hydrocarbon producing area in
New Zealand. Oil and gas exploration and development has been on-going in the
region for nearly 150 years. Since the first well in 1865, over 600 exploration and
production wells have been drilled. While the majority of the basin is offshore, the
majority of the producing wells are onshore. The geology of the basin is derived from
diverse
