Applications for resource consent
PUBLIC notice is hereby given that the Taranaki Regional Council has received the following application
for resource consents.
The applications are to renew seven resource consents and for one new consent, relating to the
operation of the Opunake Hydroelectric Power Scheme located adjacent to the Opunake township.

Buddy Mikaere w ere appointed by the Taranaki Regional Council (TRC) under
section 34A(1) of the Resource Management Act (RMA) to hear and determine the
resource consent applications described in paragraph 4 below .
2. At the outset w e note that section 113(3) of the RMA states:

General Description
Ben's Bush QEII covenant is located on private land, approximately 4.8km south of Urenui in North
Taranaki. The remnant is comprised of semi-coastal forest and includes three unnamed tributaries
live
in the region—an increase of 5.3% since the last
census was taken in 2006. This is a larger increase
than the increase between 2001 and 2006 when the
region’s population grew by only 1.2%. Despite this,
Taranaki has not experienced the population
growth pressures of other regions around the
country.
Within the region the population is also changing.
There has been a continued shift away from smaller
rural towns and an increased concentration of people in the north

General Description
The site is a 1.9ha remnant of semi-coastal forest with a canopy dominated by tawa, rewarewa, rimu and
pukatea. The ecosystem type is classified as WF13, tawa, kohekohe, rewarewa, hinau, podocarp forest.
The remnant is part of a larger area of indigenous and exotic forest that is contiguous with the
