Dairy farms need to record use of
synthetic nitrogen fertiliser to
provide Taranaki Regional Council

Synthetic
yields (1,000 GL/yr) for each of the region’s
groundwater aquifers.
What we know
Groundwater allocation
The amount of groundwater allocated across the region
is very low, with only small increases in demand over the
last 10 years. As of 30 June 2020, there were 73 consents
authorising groundwater use, up from 51 in 2013 (+43%).
The total volume of groundwater allocated by these
consents is equivalent to just over 2% of the region’s total
estimated sustainable yield.

What does Council do?
While district councils are responsible for a wide range of local
services in your area, the role and responsibilities of the Regional

land, air, coast and the quality of water in our lakes and rivers. They
are also responsible for biodiversity, regional parks, flood protection,
emergency management and regional transport. The Regional
Council works closely with district councils and other
to the tamariki to share.
Thanks to the One Billion Trees Programme for allowing us to help grow and extend action on the
ground through holistic, ecosystem approaches in the Enviroschools network. Check the following

Building a solid team
Taranaki Regional Council has been working alongside its
