Flora The forest canopy is dominated by tawa with occasional individuals or small stands of miro, pukatea, kohekohe, pigeonwood and rimu (including a few large emergent rimu trees). The understory is dominated by kanono with a mix of other species including kawakawa, pate, pigeonwood, mahoe and tree ferns. Ground cover, climbers and epiphytes are common.
