hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs is also an established
oilfield technique for regulating reservoir pressure and/or as a means of enhancing
the rate of oil recovery from a reservoir. This process is often referred to as water
flooding. Water flooding is a secondary recovery process that is often implemented
when natural reservoir pressures decline due to the removal of reservoir fluids
during production. The injection of produced fluids back into the reservoir can
increase reservoir pressure and

1.4.2 The Taranaki situation
The quantity of waste disposed of to landfill
in Taranaki is 63,161 tonnes per annum. On
a per capita basis this equates to 584
kilograms per person per year (Table 1).
Stratford and South Taranaki districts have
amongst the lowest per capita disposal rates
of any in New Zealand. This reflects their
largely rural characteristics. New Plymouth
District disposal rates are slightly higher.

most dairy farm waste and a lot of poorly
treated town and factory waste was discharged directly into the nearest watercourse. Untreated waste
generated by tens of thousands of cows was washed into the region’s rivers and streams every day.
Today, every dairy farm in Taranaki operates under a regularly monitored discharge permit that requires
effluent to be treated before discharge. And the rates of compliance are consistently high at over 93%.
Clean, healthy water is the region’s

region’s resources.
