Introduction
1. In October 2007 a crude oil spill of approximately 23 tonnes was washed up on Okato
beaches, extending from Bayley Road in the south and Perth Road in the north and
affecting almost 15 kilometres of coastline.
2. The spill was sourced to Umuroa Floating Loading Storage and Off-loading (FPSO)
facility, operated by Prosafe, for the Tui oilfield. The field is managed by Australia
Worldwide Exploration (AWE) 60 kilometres off the coast

Executive summary
Waverley Sawmills Limited (the Company) operates a wood waste disposal site located on Monk Road at
Waverley,
waste stockpiling
facilities and a landspreading operation on his property, near Inglewood, within the Waitara catchment. The
sites are located on adjoining properties off Derby Road North and Surrey Road. Drilling waste, consisting
of water based and synthetic based drilling muds are stockpilied at the Surrey Road facility, while the now
retired stockpiling facility of Derby Road has recently been turned into a landfarmed area. Material from
both sites (when Derby Road was actively
operates two quarries in Taranaki. One is located off York Road in
the Waitara catchment; and the other is located off Toko Road in the Patea catchment. Both
operate on a commercial basis.
This report for the period July 2012-June 2013 describes the monitoring programme
implemented by the Taranaki Regional Council to assess the Company’s environmental
performance and environmental effects of the Company’s activities.
