Executive summary
The New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) operates a regional landfill

1.3 As NPDC have removed Wairau Road from their Long-Term Plan, all reference to it
will be removed from the RLTP.
1.4 Ms F Ritson, Taranaki Regional Council, spoke to the Officers report and a proposed
track-changes copy of Section 4 [Strategic Framework] of the Plan. The following
changes were made to the officer’s recommendations:

6.2 A number of matters were discussed by the Committee including:
Sealing SH43
Surface options SH3 between Smart Road and Vickers Road
Bell Block to Waitara – community consultation on options to improve road safety and
reduce traffic congestion – open days 6 and 7 December to share proposed plans
improvements to intersections – Airport Drive, De Havilland Drive and SH3/SH3A
Awakino Gorge to Mount Messenger project – assurance was
(the consent holder), in conjunction with MI SWACO (the operator), operate a drilling waste
stockpiling facility (Surrey Road stockpiling facility) and a landspreading/landfarming operation on his
property, near Inglewood. This site is located within the Waitara catchment. Previously, the consent holder
operated another stockpiling facility (Derby Road stockpiling facility) also on his property. The Derby Road
site was landfarmed in the 2017-2018 monitoring period. Stockpiled drilling mud from

Executive summary
Waverley Sawmills Limited (the Company) operates a wood waste disposal site located on
Monk Road at Waverley, in the Whenuakura catchment, and a former wood waste disposal
site located on Village Settlement Road at Waverley, in the Moumahaki catchment. The Monk
Road site is consented to receive untreated wood waste only, and the Village Settlement Road
site is consented to receive treated and untreated wood waste. All the wood

Executive summary
The New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) operates a regional landfill
Group and that the NZ
Transport Agency would invesgitate this matter with the roading maintenance
contractor. Mayor Volzke concurred that due to a decrease in the quality of the
unsealed portion of SH43, vehicle punctures were becoming more common. The
Agency noted that action would be taken on this matter.
There was wider discussion on the viability and costs of completing the sealing of
SH43, estimated at around $9M. The Committee recalled receiving an estimation of
costs in 2012 of
