Victoria Road at Stratford, in the
Patea catchment. The landfill was closed to the public on 11 March 2002, and to commercial disposers on
23 March 2002. The site has more recently been used to dewater and dispose of oxidation pond sludge
from the adjacent municipal wastewater treatment plant. This activity ceased in early 2006, and the landfill
was recapped and reinstated. The only external material now accepted at the landfill is soil from a local
sawmill site remediation project. This activity
to
be released down the residual flow reach once the Tariki Weir has not naturally overtopped for 30 days, and
that once flows in the Waitara River at the Bertrand Road bridge drop below 5,000 L/s that either the
abstracted water is passed continuously through the lake, or that abstraction cease (with regard to the
150 L/s residual flow in the race).

There are currently nine seismographs in the Taranaki area continuously sending data to
GeoNet data centres for analysis. Data are sent via hubs located at the Taranaki Emergency
Management Office in New Plymouth; at Kahui Road west of Mt Taranaki; and at Eltham
(Figure 2.1).
Several seismographs outside Taranaki record earthquakes that occur in Taranaki, aiding in
locating these earthquakes.
