Waverley to Hawera
proposes a boundary change to the New Plymouth and North Taranaki constituencies. It
is proposed to make the New Plymouth Constituency the same as the New Plymouth District City Ward.
This change incorporates into the New Plymouth constituency the townships and immediate surrounding
areas of Omata and Oakura that currently reside in North Taranaki constituency¹. The boundary and
population of the North Taranaki constituency would reduce.

learning about threats to native coastal species.
Highlands Intermediate and Oakura School students,
with guidance from scientists, have been actively involved
in investigating potential threats to species at the Tapuae
Marine Reserve. They held a workshop and their findings
are being used by industry, planners, conservationists and
scientists to better protect coastal threatened species
in
project. The latest community workshop in Oakura
(Sunday 5 August) attracted approx. 300 people.
Mining exploration permit – Taranaki
Mr A D McLay, Director-Resource Management, provided an update to the Council on
the implications of granting a mining exploration permit by the Ministry of Business,
Innovation and Employment to Ironsands Offshore Mining Limited. The Council will
be seeking discussions with the Company regarding the regulation of the proposal
under the Regional

leaf roller moth in New Zealand. In its
native habitat, the insect helps control
the boneseed plant. Boneseed is a pest
plant especially in coastal areas of New
Zealand. The first New Zealand release of
the leaf roller moth was made at Waiheke
Island in 2007. Taranaki has some
boneseed plant populations at Oakura
and New Plymouth.
