There was a north-south divide in Taranaki rainfall last month with Manganui at Everett Park having 74% more rain than usual compared with the 60% less rain at Kaupokonui at Glenn Rd. The average rainfall for the region was 166.1mm, 11% more than usual, and year to date rainfall ranges from 41% less rainfall at Waitotara at Hawken Rd, and 16% more rainfall at Kotare at OSullivans, with an average of 11% less than normal. Waitara Express bus service to halve travel time

A new Waitara Express bus service is set to hit the road this month – halving the journey time between the township and New Plymouth. Taranaki Regional Council is launching the State Highway 3 service on 20 May after community calls for improved links in North Taranaki. The new service will halve the journey time between Waitara and New Plymouth from 50 to just 25 minutes, with one stop in Waitara and one in Bell Block. Presently, it is one of only two regions in New Zealand not considered at risk of exceeding current national air quality standards. This means Taranaki does not have a gazetted airshed and Ministry for the Environment (MfE) monitoring is not compulsory in Taranaki, as it is in other parts of New Zealand.
