Executive summary
The Council’s Regional Freshwater Plan for Taranaki identifies the use of pesticides as an
activity that needs to be appropriately managed in order to safeguard the ecological health of
the region’s waterways and the health of those who rely on them, including through
municipal water supplies. Also, the National Environmental Standard for Sources of
than
1m but importantly, existing permanent fencing on any stream size can remain in place if it
has been recommended at that width through a Council-prepared riparian management plan.
We believe Taranaki’s long-running programme includes native planting, which is likely to
be required in most places in the future. Our efforts to date have placed our region well ahead
in this respect.

Proposed Coastal Plan for Taranaki
Pursuant to Clause 5 of the First Schedule of the Resource Management Act
1991, the Taranaki Regional Council gives notice that it has prepared
a Proposed Coastal Plan for Taranaki and that it is open for submissions.
The Proposed Coastal Plan for Taranaki assists the Council in carrying out its
functions to promote the sustainable management of coastal resources in

Residual waste
Although recovery and recycling are effective waste minimisation principles, there is still
waste in the region that requires disposal, and it is important to continue to minimise the
amount of waste that does end up in landfill. It is also important to encourage people to
use the appropriate services to dispose of residual waste, rather than perform illegal or
unsafe practices.
