Renewable Power Ltd holds water permit 2299-3 to cover the damming of the
Waingongoro River with a six metre high concrete weir for hydroelectric power
generation purposes. This permit was issued by the Council on 1 September 2009 under
Section 87(d) of the RMA. It is due to expire on 1 June 2029.

The Company holds water permit 2053-3 to cover the diversion of up to 10 cumecs of

control of DWI activities through the resource consenting process and subsequent
compliance monitoring is an appropriate regulatory regime. In the Taranaki region,
the discharge of contaminants by DWI requires resource consent from the Council.
The activity falls under Rule 51 of the Regional Freshwater Plan for Taranaki and is
classified as a discretionary activity. The application may be non-notified if no parties
are deemed to be adversely affected by the proposed activity.

1.3 Resource consents
1.3.1 Water abstraction permit
Section 14 of the Resource Management Act stipulates that no person may take, use,
dam or divert any water, unless the activity is expressly allowed for by a resource
consent or a rule in a regional plan, or it falls within some particular categories set
out in Section 14.

Operative and Draft District Plans will provide a
maximum capacity for between 12,400 and 21,000 new dwellings.
Slightly more than half of these dwellings are feasible to build in the
current market conditions. When the 15-20 per cent margin required
by the NPS-UDC is included, the residential capacity provided in the
Operative District Plan falls short by 3,900 dwellings. However, the
urban growth areas indicated in the Draft District Plan provides
sufficient long term capacity, with an excess
