water level
and flow of the Ngatoro Stream at SH3. By using a correlation between these two sites, a calculated flow
can be estimated for the ‘Bushline. Based on this correlation, as shown in Figure 4 the flow did not fall below
the 134 L/s limit, so no restrictions were required to be put in place.

sedimentary rock is softer than the laharic material of the ring plain coast.
There are a number of small estuaries at the mouths of Taranaki’s larger rivers. These
estuaries are well flushed, with little diversity in the way of intertidal and subtidal habitats.
Sedimentation has a major influence on the region’s estuaries, the factors behind which
include rain fall and modified land use. The large number of rivers and the erosion of
Mount Taranaki generally bring a lot of sediment to
condition and the amount
of investment required to return the road to a “reasonable track” standard.
One option put forward is to set up a trust as part of the Whangamomona

1.1.9 Irrigation systems
In general there are two types of irrigation methods; surface and pressurised. The
majority of irrigation systems currently in operation in the province fall in to the
pressurised category. Pressurised systems can be further differentiated based on the
method of operation and equipment used. A summary of the systems encountered in
the region and some of their advantages and disadvantages are summarised below:
K-line and long-lateral
(constructed in 2002). The remaining residual flow passes through an old (and mostly
ineffective) fish pass on the true left bank of the weir.
Much of the scheme is monitored and operated remotely by the Company. Through an automated water
level sensor system, the Company can monitor the residual flows in the Manganui River and Mangaotea
Stream, water levels in the race and lake and how much rain is falling locally. This has allowed the Company
to manage race flows to minimise flooding, and has …
