Well drilling
Well drilling is a permitted activity undertaken in accordance with Rule 46 of the
Regional Fresh Water Plan for Taranaki. However if directional drilling results in
structures (eg. Well casing) beneath the sea bed or foreshore, consents pursuant to
the Regional Coastal Plan for Taranaki must be obtained. If such consents are to be
applied for, comment will need to be sought from Iwi under the Marine and Coastal
Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011

19. This memorandum and the associated recommendations are consistent with the
Council’s policy for the development of Māori
plans to build on recent gains in freshwater quality; to develop its
education programme; and to broaden and deepen its relationship with iwi and hapū.
Financially, the impact of our proposals for ratepayers is relatively minor. The Council is proposing an increase of
3.5 percent in its general rates take for 2018/2019. In the last three years, the average general rates increase
has been 0.97%. Over the life of the 2018/2028 Long-Term Plan the general rates increase averages out at
