planting waterways, a difficult task given the fast-moving changes in recent years. Working with Taranaki Regional Council since 2003, the couple identified which wetlands needed protection and stock exclusions. Wetlands have been planted to create habitats for native flora and fauna while indigenous vegetation has been retained on steep areas to prevent erosion. They’ve planted 11,800 riparian plants and fenced 23km of waterways, ensuring that 100% of streams and drains have now been fenced or planted

4.1 Mr F Kiddle – Strategy Lead, spoke to the Memorandum to
Woodleigh Ltd - for environmental stewardship and the protection of wetlands and other important native habitat. The presence of matuku, or Australasian bittern, and other endangered species convinced Bruce Middleton to make the environment a priority when he converted his 227-hectare Waverley farm from drystock to dairying. The family has protected an extensive wetland on the property with 15 kilometres of fencing and 5,400 native plants, with more plants to come. The wetlands are transforming before
Summer is settling in, and the garden is brimming with life and colour. The rhododendrons continue to shine, their vibrant hues lingering beautifully across the landscape. As if on cue, hydrangeas, deutzia and philadelphus are beginning to bloom, each add Down in the Valley of the Giants, the new Nathan Hill sculptures have found their place, standing proudly amidst the towering trees. These striking pieces bring an added layer of wonder to the loop, seamlessly blending art with nature.
