Mobile Black Spot Fund update
Late information item provided to Taranaki RTC 6 September 2017 meeting
The Mobile Black Spot Fund (MBSF) announcement made on 30 August 2017 included
reasonably significant coverage improvements for both SH3 and SH43, both in Taranaki and
neighbouring regions.
Mobile coverage will be extended to around 1,000 kilometres of state highways and more
than 100 tourist areas across New Zealand, including:

level crossing has led to a review of safety and compliance at this site. Limited site distance,
poor approaches and a confined site suggest a more controlled point is appropriate.

DESCRIPTION
The goldstripe gecko is a distinctive yellow/brown to olive colour usually with
alternate light and dark longitudinal stripes along its back. They grow to around
140mm in total length from their nose to the tip of their tail.

We have two species of bat in Taranaki, the lesser short-tailed bat
(Mystacina tuberculata rhyacobia) and New Zealand long-tailed bat
(Chalinolobus tuberculatus).
DISTRIBUTION, BREEDING AND FEEDING
Little is known about the distribution of bats in Taranaki but both the short-
tailed and long-tailed bat have been recorded here. Their ideal habitat is
mature native forest, but they have been known to inhabit exotic forestry as
well.
