How to stand

Nominations for those wanting to take a run at Council are now open.

If you want to stand for Taranaki Regional Council, nominations opened on 4 July and close on 1 August. There is an online portal where you can submit your nomination – head to taranaki.rc/stand(external link) from 4 July.  

The Council has 11 elected members; five from the New Plymouth Constituency, two from the North Taranaki constituency, two from the South Taranaki constituency, one from the Stratford constituency and one from the Māori constituency.

Elections will also be held at the same time for elected members of the New Plymouth District Council, South Taranaki District Council and Stratford District Council.

If you’re interested in taking a run at being a councillor and helping to shape our future, there are three upcoming information meetings. They are hosted by the three district councils and a representative from Taranaki Regional Council will be at each meeting to answer your questions.  

They are all on Saturday 5 July:  

9 to 11am, South Taranaki District Council Administration Building, 105-111 Albion Street, Hāwera  

12 to 2pm, Council Chambers, Stratford District Council, 63 Miranda Street, Stratford  

3 to 5pm, New Plymouth District Council, Council Chamber, Civic Centre, 84 Liardet Street, New Plymouth
