stormwater ponds were empty and not discharging. The site was well fenced and secure.
There were no stock in the area around the cap. There were no odour or dust issues. Samples of sawdust
material were collected and sent to Scion for CCA analysis. No unauthorised material was noted onsite.
Photo 2 Value Timber Ltd site inspection 26/01/2022
20 June 2022
The site was inspected in cold weather conditions, with a strong south-easterly wind and light rain. Drainage
was flowing freely after
controls were in place and
appeared to be working well. The stream was running clear further downstream, with a reduction in the
amount of iron oxide compared to upstream. Fencing onsite was permanent and intact and there was no
sign of recent cattle grazing in the pre-fill gully.
17 January 2018
The site was inspected in overcast weather and light wind conditions. The fill area (Photo 1) had one small
stockpile of sawdust to be spread, and the area was tidy and well-managed. The tip face
inspected in fine weather and light southerly wind conditions. It was
found that there were some minor amounts of stockpiled material. It was noted that
these were to be spread at tip face once the ground had dried out. There was no
ponding, slumping or cracking observed to be present on the tip site or tip face, and
there was no unauthorised material present.
In the pre-fill gully it was found that the grass was still in the process of becoming
established. It was noted that some areas with

Firth Industries (Hawera)
9 January 2013
A north west wind was blowing at the time of inspection. The site looked to have
had very little use and was in a tidy condition. The bunded area for chemical
additives was about a third full of a black liquid (perhaps stormwater mixed with
additive) and was in need of emptying (via suction truck). The pond at the back was
quite low and nowhere near the discharge pipe. Overall the site looked to be well
managed

38. The method of disposal proposed is an important management technique for reducing
exposure to pathogens, maximising dilution and dispersion of contaminants, and
minimising losses from wind or run-off after application.
39. The plant has sufficient buffering capacity to accommodate normal variations in load,
including peak loads and planned maintenance, without the need to dispose to land. The
proposed application method has been derived from over 30 years of land disposal
