For thousands of years Pukeiti was unspoiled virgin
rainforest. Most of the Rimu were removed in a decade
during

during logging in the 1920s. Afterwards some areas
remained forested while others were used for pasture
or pine plantations. Now, more than 80 years
later, the forest is covering the land once more.
Pukeiti’s Rainforest tracks take you through this
regenerating rainforest with remnant pockets of
mature forest and some ancient rimu trees. There are
spectacular views of the Tasman Sea, the Pouakai and
the Kaitake mountain ranges.
Be prepared for
operating different routes. This will have an impact on students
particularly in Waitara.
A new central meeting point at the War Memorial Hall will be established. The four Waitara
buses will meet at the hall each morning and students will then be directed to transfer (if
required) to buses dedicated to particular schools. In the afternoon the procedure will work
in reverse.

6.1.2
The Taranaki Regional Council will as far as practicable, strictly limit the taking, use,
damming and diversion of water above the existing level of use in the catchments or
reaches listed in Table 2. All applications for existing and any further taking, use,
damming or diversion of water in these catchments will be assessed on a case-by-case
basis according to Policies 6.1.3 and 6.1.5-6.1.9.
