Last year, to say the least, was a traumatic
year. Plans made had to be altered or
abandoned as a Covid-cloud of concern
hung over us. But now in 2021 there is
hope: new exciting initiatives are being
planned that provide a positive outlook for
the Trust and Pukeiti, provided of course
performance has reduced.
This report includes recommendations for the 2019-2020 year.

INTRODUCTION
Complete retirement of the riparian margin
is the best option for riparian management
as it stabilises streambanks, and improves
water quality.
Planting with native species that have
been sourced locally is recommended for
most areas as
project took longer than planned and became a much larger aspect of the project than
envisaged. As this report outlines, this work highlighted specific areas of the region
where irrigation may be viable, rather than the more general zones identified in the
Rout (2003) report. These more detailed results allow a more targeted approach to
assessing the viability of irrigation.
