not only now, but for future generations.”
The Council has generally positive
relationships with community members, iwi
and industry through its existing
environmental programmes and receives
regular feedback on a range of issues.
“The freshwater engagement process aims
to build on that as well as encouraging
input from others who may not already
interact with the Council.”
Mr McLay encourages anyone interested
in contributing to the
consideration of the availability of
both Council and contractor resources, particularly during the set-up phase. This
threshold will be revisited when the bylaw is next reviewed. It is anticipated that
these requirements will eventually roll down to residential builds in addition to
commercial builds.

Taranaki has also the potential to be a centre of excellence in plants, gardening and
horticultural activities particularly in training and education. This builds on the
history and reputation Taranaki has held in the past.
Grouping these experiences and potentials creates a powerful identity and a wealth
of opportunities for the region.

two separate settling ponds. There was no discharge from the old silt ponds, which are no longer in use and
disconnected from treatment system. All surface water was directed to the large pond/lake, from which the
discharge flowed to the wetland. All inspections observed the wetland to have clear and uncoloured water,
with no signs of silt or sediment build up. In June 2021 the discharge to the wetland was observed to be

The Council is working to build a better understanding
of iwi management plans to assist freshwater policy
development and to inform consenting processes. This
