Freshwater Regime
Summary
• The National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management (NPS-FM) is critical for improving
freshwater quality. As such, it is important that regional councils be empowered to proceed with
its implementation in a timely manner. Ongoing delays in implementing new planning
provisions, and the range of other actions required to improve water quality and management,
will only exacerbate the size of the problem

10. Updates on Ministry of Transport Workstreams Including Development of GPS 2021
10.1 Mr M J Nield, Director – Corporate Services, spoke to the memorandum for Members to
seek endorsement of the regional submission on the draft Government Policy Statement on
Land Transport (GPS) 2021, which was previously circulated by email to allow the
Committee's consideration prior to the submission closing. …
Housing and Business Capacity Assessment (HBA) 2019, was developed
in accordance with the National Policy Statement on Urban Development
Capacity (2016). The New Plymouth District Council and the Taranaki Regional
Council must provide sufficient development capacity for the New Plymouth
district to meet demand over a 30- year period.
2.7. The housing component of this assessment has been updated in accordance
with the National Policy Statement Urban Development (2020)1.
The Taranaki Regional Council and New Plymouth District Council have worked together on these documents relating to the Government's National Policy Statement for Urban Development Capacity.
