successful public workshops were held to promote the urban project and these resulted in approximately 1000 new traps being deployed across New Plymouth city. Six schools are now distributing traps, with more schools expressing interest in being involved. A joint open day to promote the urban project in Oakura and the rural one in the Kaitake Range attracted approximately 300 people and is now branded as ‘Restore Kaitake’. Ngā Iwi o Taranaki support the project and the application for funding
for another 20% of the consents, a good level of environmental performance and compliance was achieved. 1.2 Process description The NPWWTP (Photo 1) treats the municipal wastewater from the New Plymouth urban area, Bell Block, Oakura and Inglewood by a process of extended aeration activated sludge. There is also a substantial industrial load, equivalent to approximately 25% of the total biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) load, treated by the plant. The plant was commissioned in 1984, and has
