cats than mustelids. Would support
extension of SHP to cats and encourages Council to
explore options. Recognises that farmers are busy and
may not have time to do the feral cat control work
sought.
Suggests there may be options to charge an additional
levy on rateable land and use the funds to pay
contractors to maintain predator levels. Notes that
other councils (Hawke’s Bay and Northland regional
councils) have done similar things.

Climate
Taranaki is one of the sunniest and windiest regions in
Aotearoa. Crowned the sunshine capital of New Zealand in
2021, New Plymouth often enjoys more than 2,500 sunshine
hours a year.
Taranaki climate is largely influenced by its location and
exposure to weather systems migrating across the Tasman
Sea. Consistent rainfall, a moderate climate and fertile, free-
draining soils mean the region is well-suited to productive
land uses such as
28.4% greater and and high flows 68.6% lower than typical values while Mean river (non-mountain) water temperatures were 10.7°C, an average of 1.4°C cooler than usual. The average air temperature for the region (excluding Te Maunga sites) was 10.9°C, which is 1.6°C cooler than usual for May. The top air temperature recorded in May was 19.89°C at Brooklands Zoo at New Plymouth on 3 May. The highest wind gust recorded was 101.2km/hr at Kapoaiaia at Lighthouse, at 3:50pm on 29 May. The reporting toolsThe tools to report synthetic nitrogen use are provided by fertiliser companies Ravensdown and Ballance. For those who are not customers of the two companies, there is a regional sector tool called the N-Cap Webform.
