joined over forty other students in Wellington.
Their experiences were presented to a recent
Taranaki Regional Council meeting. It was
obvious they had a fun filled, inspirational and
enjoyable five days.
It is my guess and indeed my hope that schools
regularly practise earthquake and fire drills as
part of their emergency preparations. Certainly,
in my over thirty years as a practising teacher,
I can recall many

weeds lose vigour and can be more easily
knocked back.
To find out sprays and application
techniques appropriate for a specific weed,
refer to the Taranaki Regional Council’s
weed control Information Sheets. The
Council’s weed management officers can
also make site visits to inspect and advise,
where there is a particularly severe
infestation.

Taranaki
defined as a high growth district (i.e. projected to grow by more than 10 per cent from 2013 to 2023).
As a high growth district, the NPS-UDC requires councils to assess housing and business demand and
capacity across the district. The New Plymouth District Council and the Taranaki Regional Council must
provide sufficient development capacity for the New Plymouth district to meet demand over a 30-
year period.
Both the New Plymouth District Council and Taranaki Regional Council recognise …
students to choose activities appropriate to their level and ability.
Curriculum links are listed to help teachers track progress. The Taranaki Regional Council
website www.trc.govt.nz can be used to download the unit and as a source for research to
assist with some of the activities.
The main areas covered by the unit are:
Key Competencies
• Managing self

Re-ramming and checking for die-back
The first spring and summer after planting, check poles
