place in conjunction with humidity and wind conditions. Honey bees
generally do not forage in high humidity. Cloudiness can also reduce flight
activity due to low light.
However, given New Zealand’s generally temperate climate, the principal
limitations on bee activity are rain and wind which can severely curtail foraging.
Bees will not leave the hive on rainy days and foraging is limited at
wind speeds above 20-30kph. As wind speed increases from still

Autumn has been and gone
R. ‘Beverly McConnell’
This week winter officially begins – a
warm wet one was promised, just a little
different from the autumn of mixed
fortune which was unsettled with warm
days, interspersed with heavy rain and
thunderstorms over much of the country,
and even the occasional cyclone in
places. As a result a flush of anticipated

was observed that a drain had been constructed above the race up gradient of the cap
that, at the time of inspection, was directing spring water around the cap. It was
considered that the drain would also be adequate to direct stormwater from above the
site, around the cap, during rainfall.
25 June 2015
A site visit was made in fine weather to conduct a compliance monitoring inspection
and take samples. There had been very heavy rain over the weekend prior to the
inspection, and
have been captured could
possibly escape the wells once the levels equalized.
The 'coke can' flare stack was observed maintaining a pilot flare. No smoke was noted.
4 May 2020
The inspection was carried out following an extended period of heavy rain. All systems appeared to be
operating normally and no issues were raised.
29 June 2020
It was raining heavily at the time of inspection and it was noted that there were no hydrocarbon sheens
visible in any puddles. All systems …

25 November 2019, and 20 March and 3 June 2020.
30 September 2019
Routine activity was occurring onsite at the time of the inspection. Heavy rain earlier in the day had resulted
in short-term, localised ponding in some areas around the site. All stormwater sumps were clear and free-
flowing. The screens on the sumps in the scrap storage area appeared to have been recently cleaned, and
minimal swarf build-up was …
