1.3.1 Water abstraction permit
Section 14 of the RMA stipulates that no person may take, use, dam or divert any
water, unless the activity is expressly allowed for by a resource consent or a rule in a
regional plan, or it falls within some particular categories set out in Section 14.
Trustpower holds water permit 0489-2 to cover the damming and diversion of the
Patea River from Lake Rotorangi through the intake and spillways. This permit was
issued by the Council on 25
however some empty drums remained on site. Although the drums were
stored upright some of the caps were not secured tightly, meaning that spills may
occur should the drums fall over. Site staff were advised to arrange for the removal
of these drums from the site. The cellar about well B10 was full with what appeared
visually to be contaminated water. This was not overflowing onto the site, however
only a small amount of free board remained. Site staff were also advised to ensure
that the
water, unless the activity is expressly allowed for by a resource
consent or a rule in a regional plan, or it falls within some particular categories set out
in Section 14.
Greymouth Petroleum holds water abstraction permit 5384-1 to cover the abstraction of
550 cubic metres/day (6.4 litres/second) of groundwater from a bore for oilfield
waterflooding purposes in the Waiwhakaiho Catchment. This permit was issued by the
Taranaki Regional Council on 18 September 1998 under Section 87(e) of the
Agenda for Regional Transport Committee June 2017.
