The environmental performance of consent holders is closely monitored by the Council, with results reported to the community. The Council’s scientific and technical officers prepare 100-plus monitoring reports each year, most of them annual, biennial or triennial compliance reports covering large individual consent holders in most cases, or a number of smaller consent-holders – within a particular catchment, for example. There are also reports covering one-off activities such as exploration
Quality advised that a
recent study had found that naturalised E. coli contributes low concentrations, but are
not such a significant contributor that they confuse or confound testing.
Recommended
That the Taranaki Regional Council:
a) receives the technical report, Assessment of Escherichia coli load reductions required to
achieve freshwater objectives in the rivers of the Taranaki region and notes that the outputs
will provide useful context as we continue work to implement
feedback and
high-level direction received from this engagement were integrated into development of the draft FDS,
as required by the NPS-UD.
14. The NPS-UD requires the first FDS to be published in time to inform, or at the same time, as the 2024
Long-Term Plan. Councils must review the FDS every 3 years to determine if it requires updating, a full
review must be done every 6 years. However, the FDS Implementation Plan must be updated annually
separately from the FDS and does

The Resource Management Act (RMA) sets out detailed requirements for what must be included in an application.
