The Keiller Garden is looking fantastic, with perennials in full bloom putting on a great display. The new planting in front of the lodge is also coming along well, adding a fresh mix of colour and texture. Now’s a great time to check out the Vireya Walk, where some of the Vireya rhododendrons are in flower alongside interesting bulbs popping up. Meanwhile, the hydrangeas around the garden are still holding their colour and looking good. Plenty to see as we enjoy the last of the summer blooms!

3. Update on Old Man’s Beard Control Programme
3.1 Mr D R Harrison, Director - Operations, spoke to the memorandum to update
Members' on the progress that the Taranaki Regional Council (the Council) has made
with the implementation of the Old
Quality advised that a
recent study had found that naturalised E. coli contributes low concentrations, but are
not such a significant contributor that they confuse or confound testing.
Recommended
That the Taranaki Regional Council:
a) receives the technical report, Assessment of Escherichia coli load reductions required to
achieve freshwater objectives in the rivers of the Taranaki region and notes that the outputs
will provide useful context as we continue work to implement

New Plymouth has far fewer rats than it did five years ago, thanks to the efforts of thousands of dedicated backyard trappers. Towards Predator-Free Taranaki recently carried out its annual rat tracking monitoring at nine sites across the city. At each site 10 tracking tunnels were baited with peanut butter and left out for one fine night. In the morning, prints on an inked card revealed whether there were rodents or other creatures present. This year rats were detected at just 13% of the
