• Environmental Enhancement Grants: Protection and
enhancement of Regionally Significant Wetlands (RSW); other
habitats or regional significance
• Wetland Consent Fund: Protection and enhancement of
degraded wetlands.
Funding may be available for: Pest plant control; enhancement
planting within degraded wetlands/RSW margins; buffer planting
of dryland margins and drains interconnected with RSW; fencing
(primarily for retirement/enhancement of

alert messages in situations with real and
serious threats to life, health and property such
as an expected Tsunami or water
contamination event.

What used to happen
A waste audit in 2009 found that of the 14.9 tonnes of material sent to
landfill annually from the Civic Centre, 87% or 12.9 tonnes could have
been composted or recycled.
What changes were made
NPDC developed a Workplace Sustainability Waste Minimisation
initiative, under which setting up good facilities and educating staff at
New Plymouth Civic Centre was a key project. Recycling ‘mini-stations’,
for mixed recycling, organics and waste to landfill, were set

inundation, several communities are built in river estuaries or have coastal exposure,
which carries some risk of inundation. These areas have been studied in this report.
The tsunami waves used in the model are based on the GNS report Review of
Tsunami Hazard and Risk in New Zealand (Berryman, 2005), which indicates the
wave heights for the Taranaki coastline to be approximately 2 m for a 500 year return
period event, and 3 m for a 2500 year
