during construction activities. The influence that aquifer properties
below 2 metres have on groundwater velocities is uncertain, in terms of over and/or under
estimating velocities. For the current groundwater velocity calculations, the aquifer properties were
estimated as ‘Silty Clay’, with an effective soil porosity of 0.01 or 1% to the base of the aquifer
(McWorter and Sunada 1977).
Well construction information is also limited but deemed critical to the analysis of slug test data,

brown mudfish, with North Island populations
now mainly found from Warea in Taranaki southwards, usually at elevations
lower than 240 metres. They tolerate a wide range of habitats including
peaty bogs, raupo swamps, lake margins, forest pools and streams.
A lot of the habitats that brown mudfish occupy dry out over summer,
forcing the fish to aestivate (summer hibernation). During summer mudfish
bury themselves deep in mud or under logs, making sure their refuge is

17. I maintain my original conclusion that, based on the expert
we will be calling for volunteers
to help with the garden at this time.
There will be a list at the AGM for members
present to fill in. Otherwise if you could ring or
e-mail Heather with the times you are available
to help it will save her from ringing you.
Weekend of 21 & 22 November –
Members’ bus trip to the Cross
Hills Garden, Country Fair and
Nursery.
This was originally planned as a day visit
but, having spoken to the staff at Cross Hills,
I realise that trying to drive to
interconnected values of a site or place with the wider environment is
an essential consideration when assessing the cultural effects of activities within the Ngaa
Rauru Kiitahi rohe. However, the following specific sites and places identify sites with
special cultural, spiritual, historical and traditional associations located within the coastal
marine area, including values specific to the site or place.

- What methods of control are there, poisoning/hunting/trapping?
Debate Topic
- That trapping is a more effective way of controlling possums in
New Zealand than poisoning.
Divide your class into groups to debate this topic or ask children
to present a speech on possum related topics.

in the Taranaki region. The highest median enterococci counts were
recorded at Oakura Surf Club and Ohawe (57 and 24 enterococci cfu/100 ml respectively).
Median enterococci counts at all other beaches were equal to or less than 8 cfu/100 ml. Out of
the 191 samples collected for both SEM and for additional monitoring purposes, 96% were
below the Alert level. Of the few samples which individually entered the Alert guideline
category (4%), over two thirds (5 out of 7) had been influenced by
automobile exhaust, and through
volatilization from there use as solvents.
The term BTEX reflects that benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes are often found
together.
Health effects
Exposure to BTEX can occur by ingestion (consuming water contaminated with BTEX),
inhalation (exposure to BTEX present in the air) or absorption through the skin. Inhalation of
BTEX can occur while pumping gasoline. Absorption of these chemicals can occur by
spilling gasoline onto one's skin. Acute
