The Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) primarily addresses environmental ‘effects’ which are defined
as positive or adverse, temporary or permanent, past, present or future, or cumulative. Effects may arise in
relation to:
a. the neighbourhood or the wider community around a discharger, and may include cultural and
socio-economic effects;
b. physical effects on the locality, including landscape, amenity and visual effects;
c. ecosystems, including effects on plants, animals, or

compliance was achieved.
In terms of overall environmental and compliance performance by the consent holder over the last several
years, this report shows that the consent holder’s performance remains at a good or high level.

permanent, past, present or future, or cumulative. Effects may arise in relation to:
a. the neighbourhood or the wider community around an activity, and may
covered by existing rules.
The new requirements are far-reaching and should not be ignored. If your farm or business is undertaking or
planning operational changes or developments involving any aspect of fresh water or waterways, you should
check if they apply. Even if you haven’t needed a resource consent for such work in the past, it’s important you
talk to Council staff.
