We are pleased to present the Taranaki Regional Council’s 2022/2023 Annual Report.
Kia ora koutou
This report looks at what we have achieved over the
last year and how that compares against what was
set out in the 2021-2031 Long-Term Plan (LTP).
Although it’s only been three years since that LTP
was developed and two years since it came into
effect, the world we’re living in has changed
dramatically in
District Council as consent holder is required maintain a discharge consent
going forward, once the landfill is closed.
3.3 Ms E Bailey, Iwi Representative, raised questions around the Colson Road groundwater
bores being referred to as compromised and why a flare was installed. Ms V McKay
responded the bores were damaged however, noted they were also no longer in a suitable
location for the landfill closure plan. Ms E Bailey raised a further question around
whether it would be
members, which is in line with Local Government Commission guidelines around the ratios of population to members. Stratford remains just outside the ratio guidelines however the Council agreed it was a distinct community of interest and required a representative. This means the Local Government Commission will need to approve the final proposal, as it has done in the past. The proposal also keeps the general constituency boundaries aligned, as far as possible, with district council boundaries. Public

After considering a wide range of options the Council agreed the current 11 members provided logical, consistent representation. It also wanted to keep the general constituency boundaries aligned, as far as possible, with district council boundaries. Under its proposal there will be one elected member from a region-wide Māori constituency,
Halema confirmed the Marfell skinks are indeed the native variety. The Marfell Community Garden is a Sustainable Taranaki project that started last November on New Plymouth District Council reserve land, with the support of Mitre 10 Mega. Every second Sunday, people of all ages and backgrounds gather to work in the garden – which has come a long way in a short time. And it’s not just the kids who are excited by the skink discovery.
