October 2021 rainfall

Bell Block copped the rainfall in October, while the region's south coast was drier than normal.

October rainfall ranged between 62% and 139% of normal at our monitored sites, with an average of 97%. Bell Block was on 139% with 136.2 mm, while Whareroa and Waitōtara were both on 62% with 63mm and 54.4mm respectively. Our sites on Taranaki Maunga recorded 87% to 108% of normal for the month, with totals ranging from 471.5mm to 681mm.

Year-to-date rainfall ranges from 85% to 122% of the 10-month normal, with an average of 101%. Dawson Falls is on 122% with 6209.5 mm, which is 5% more than its normal annual rainfall with two months to go. At the other extreme, Omahine in the eastern hillcountry inland of Waitōtara is on 85% with 1273.mm. Four sites are below 95% of their normal rainfall to date: Tongaporutu (92%), Omahine (85%), Waitōtara Valley (91%) and Ngutuwera (93%)
