Taranaki was off to a very dry start to 2019, with January rainfall at all but one of our monitored sites below normal - by nearly two-thirds in one case.
The regional average was 58% and individual sites ranged from 35% to 92% apart from Duffy's Farm at Whareroa near Hāwera, which was on 117% at 74.5mm.
Rain was recorded on between four to 12 days at sites outside of the National Park. Motunui, whose 34.5mm was 48% of its January normal, had rain on just four days. Okoki recorded just over a third (35%) of its normal January rain, with 50mm falling over nine days.
Duffy's Farm, the month's outlier site, had 68mm of its 74.5mm on 14 and 15 January.
