Tupare is an ideal venue for weddings and other private functions, and the house is also available for private bookings.

Just bear in mind that there can be no more than two house functions a week, no function can overlap with garden workshops or regular house tours, and the property will always be open to the public from 9am to 5pm daily, with no entry charge.

Conditions

The hirer has sole responsibility for:

  • Hiring, setting up and removing any temporary structures eg marquees or portaloos that may be required.
  • Making arrangements for catering, beverages, liquor licences etc.
  • Ensuring that the site is cleared and all rubbish is removed from the gardens after the function. Any extra costs incurred in cleaning up the site will be recovered from the hirer by the Taranaki Regional Council.
  • Traffic management and parking. The Taranaki Regional Council is to be informed of the traffic plans.

If the booking is cancelled within seven days of the event, the hire fee will not be refunded.

Formal dining functions at the house are for a maximum of 16 people. Informal dining functions are for a maximum of 35.

$100 + GST (Bond: $200 + GST)

Garden functions (including wedding receptions)

$400 + GST (Bond: $800 + GST)

Charges - house events

Day and evening charges are available on application. A house manager service, organising and co-ordinating catering and other services, is also available to corporates.

Charities

The house is available for suitable local charity fundraisers free of charge. Maximum of six events a year.

FAQs

Q Where at Tupare can we hold our ceremony?
A The Elizabeth Garden lawn, adjacent to the small pond is suitable for up to 50 people. Cottage lawn, between the limestone pergola and the brick arch, is an option for up to 80 people.

Q Are toilets available?
A Yes, three toilets, one wheelchair accessible, are on the south side of the Gardener’s Cottage.

Q Is power available for music etc?
A Yes, garden staff are available to show you during normal working hours.

Q Can we drive down to the wedding site?
A Garden staff will unlock the gates at an arranged time to allow vehicles to deliver goods, and to allow the wedding party or any guests, unable to walk down the drive, to park near to the main house.

Q Can we have a key for the gate?
A No, but garden staff are able to lock and unlock the gates and provide assistance.

Q When are the gardens at their best?
A Tupare is a very special garden all year round. Late spring to mid-autumn is the popular season for weddings at Tupare.

Q Our wedding function will go on into the night, will the outdoor lights be on?
A Yes, garden staff will turn all outdoor lighting on for your wedding.

Q Is the house available for our wedding?
A No
