Planning to meet Taranaki's current and future transport needs is carried out through two major documents, the Regional Land Transport Programme and the Regional Land Transport Strategy.
Click here for information on the review of the Regional Land Transport Strategy.
The Regional Land Transport Programme is a statutory document which collates and prioritises land transport activities in the Taranaki region for funding from the National Land Transport Fund. The RLTP is the basis for requesting government funding.
The Regional Land Transport Strategy aims to identify the outcomes our community wants to achieve for our land transport system in the region and what options we have for achieving those outcomes.
The Council also asists with working groups including the State Highway 3 Working Party, the Stratford to Okahukura Railway Line Working Party and the Stock Truck Effluent Disposal Working Party.
It carries out advocacy on central and local government initiatives and policies documents, liaises with other Regional Councils on transport initiatives and developments, and handles regional funding applications through the National Land Transport Plan and regional roading funds.
