Taranaki: Where We Stand - State of the Environment Report - published 2009
This is the Council's third State of the Environment Report for Taranaki, following earlier reports in 1996 and 2003. The 2009 Report generally presents Taranaki as having a high-quality environment, which is valued and well-managed by the community. Like any report card, however, there are positives and negatives. The Report describes the combined efforts of the Taranaki Regional Council, District Councils, the Department of Conservation, the Ministry of Fisheries, community groups, iwi and landowners. These achievements represent a significant step along the path to sustainable management in Taranaki. Hard copy: Free

Environmental Investment Case Study: PKW Farms Ltd - published 2008
Produced in conjunction with the Community Investment report (above), this BERL study focuses on Parininihi Ki Waitotara Incorporation (PKW), which is committed to be a leader in the field of on-farm environmental protection and restoration. It works closely with Taranaki Regional Council on a range of environmental investments funded by PKW Farms.

Trends in the Quality of the Surface Waters of Taranaki - published 2006
This report examines trends in the physicochemical quality of the region’s surface freshwater. With the accumulation of 10 years’ data, and the development and implementation of appropriate statistical analysis tools, the Council is now in a position to quantitatively assess trends in water quality, taking into account variations in flow conditions. While the SEM data is the primary record used in this review, use has also been made of data gathered 25 years ago in a survey of the Taranaki ring plain conducted by the Taranaki Catchment Commission. A discussion of trend analysis of State of the Environment freshwater biological data of Taranaki 1995-2005 - published 2006
With the accumulation of 10 years’ data for four key parameters or indicators, and the development and implementation of appropriate statistical analysis tools, the Council is in a position to quantitatively determine and assess trends in the quality of the region’s freshwater ecological systems, for the first time. The Council therefore commissioned Cawthron Institute to undertake such an analysis. This is a companion report to that report (“Temporal trends”, see below). Hard copy: $15 + GST

An approach to the evaluation of temporal trends in Taranaki state of the environment macroinvertebrate data - published 2006
This Cawthron Institute report was commissioned by the Council to examine several simple statistical approaches for the detection of significant trends in stream macroinvertebrate biological indices. One question that arises after state of the environment monitoring (SEM) has been undertaken for several years is whether conditions have got worse, improved, or stayed the same. Hard copy: $15 + GST

An interpretation of the reasons for statistically significant temporal trends in macroinvertebrate (MCI) SEM data in the Taranaki region, 1995-2005 - published 2006
Trend analysis of macroinvertebrate data collected from 60 sites using SEM protocols over the 10 years from 1995 to 2005 found nine sites with statistically significant temporal trends in Macroinvertebrate Community Index (MCI) scores. Two other sites had statistically significant temporal trends but the monitoring period covered a shorter (six year) period. The ecological significance of these trends and discussion of the reasons for the statistical trends are presented in this report. Hard copy: $15 + GST.
