hectares and is located adjacent to
the true right bank of the Waingongoro River, off Omahuru Road, Okaiawa. The
quarry first began operating in March 2002. Aggregate is excavated and processed
using a dry crusher, screening plant and digger.

Stormwater, washwater and groundwater from the operation is directed to settling
ponds before being discharged into the Waingongoro River. A riparian buffer zone of
undisturbed land
cleaned out as is necessary. The existing riparian buffer also helps to filter sediment
from stormwater should there be any overflow. The river is bounded by a 10 metre
buffer strip.
The quarry is only in operation for approximately 20-25 days out of the year. Stock
typically grazes the area through out the year.

collection system than elsewhere in South Taranaki.
Riparian fencing and planting of the river margin adjacent to the ponds system has also been undertaken.
The installation of a mechanical step-screen at the inlet was undertaken during the latter months of the
2012-2013 monitoring period. This screen system has telemetry alarming. A flow meter was installed on the
pond inlet in the 2017-2018 year as per consent conditions.

on the Mangawhero Stream or in the Waingongoro River below the
Mangawhero Stream confluence. State of the environment trend monitoring over a twenty-plus year period
has shown significant statistical and ecological improvements in stream and river biological health at both
sites downstream of the wastewater outfall.
Future riparian planting and the movement towards dairy shed treated waste irrigation to land should
further contribute to marked improvements in the water quality of the
South Taranaki water supplies report
also present.
Ecological context - High Enhances stepping-stone connectivity between the extensive forests
of Te Papakura o Taranaki (Egmont National Park) and fragmented
indigenous habitats on the ring plain. Provides important mature
riparian vegetation along the Mangorei stream linking riverine and
forest habitats.
