Purpose of Policy and Planning Committee meeting
This committee attends to all matters of resource management, biosecurity and related
environment policy.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review regional policy statements, plans and strategies and convene as a
Hearing Committee as and when required for the hearing of submissions.
Monitor plan and policy
plan is reviewed annually and forwarded to all parties as required by consent. It covers such
emergencies such as floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruption. The Company’s management of the
dissolved oxygen monitoring improved and they also funded the stocking of trout into the lower Patea River
in spring 2021. Investigations into the risks of sedimentation at the Mangamingi Bridge have also been
completed, with no additional mitigating tools at the bridge deemed necessary.
There was one
management strategies and content of regional plans; and

1.4.3 Site inspections
The HWWTP was visited six times during the monitoring period. With regard to consents for the discharge
to water, the main points of interest were plant processes with potential or actual discharges to receiving
watercourses. Air inspections focused on plant processes with associated actual and potential emission
sources and characteristics, including potential odour, dust,
constructed wetland programme in Awatuna to filter farm run-off, to small-scale projects on private land undertaken by community groups and individual landowners." Whether large or small, all wetland restoration projects call for good planning. Mr Harrison encourages people to contact the Council for advice about restoration planning, management, weed and pest control, native plant growing, revegetation, and reviewing potential funding eligibility. “Together, we can continue making progress on conserving

a stream. At primary level, stream studies involve finding and identifying stream bugs and measuring other water quality parameters including water clarity and temperature. Year 12 and 13 classes and adult groups often use the Stream Health Measurement and Assessment Kit (SHMAK) that enables collection of scientifically robust data that can be used to make assessments of stream health. Wetland studiesThere are some excellent wetland areas suitable for school visits. Popular ones are Nowells
indicating the interest within the SDC rohe.
We have a new draft Waste and Water Education Strategy with targets and implementation
dates which will be reviewed and presented to councillors shortly.
We currently have four local feasibility studies being carried out:
1. Worm farming and/or composting for residents
2. Development of a community garden
3. Creation of a Whakaahurangi/Stratford Eco-warriors group
4. A series of local competitions to engage residents
