Regional policy statement
|
|
|
The Resource Management Act 1991 requires all regional councils to prepare a regional policy statement for its region.
Proposed Regional Policy Statement for Taranaki
The first Regional Policy Statement for Taranaki was developed in 1994. As the Resource Management Act 1991 requires regional councils to review their regional policy statements every 10 years, a second Proposed Regional Policy Statement for Taranaki has recently been prepared which provides:
- an overview of the resource management issues of the region; and
- identifies policies and methods to achieve integrated management of the natural and physical resources of the whole region.

Thirty-five submissions and 21 further submissions supporting or opposing the initial submissions have been received, with a total of 585 separate submission points made.
Council officers have prepared a report responding to each submission point and recommending acceptance, partial acceptance, rejection or making another change to achieve the same result.
This report will be used as a basis for pre-hearing meetings with submitters.
The report can be accessed via the links below. It has been split into two to reduce the file sizes.

| The purpose of this report was to seek public feedback on the Council's review of its responsibilities in relation to indigenous biodiversity. The review looked at the statutory responsibilities of key players involved in the maintenance of indigenous biodiversity, the state of indigenous biodiversity in the Taranaki region, the various issues relating to the management of indigenous biodiversity, who currently does what, and, finally a proposed management approach for the Council in relation to the future implementation of its responsibilities for indigenous biodiversity. The review also assisted the Council in the development of objectives, policies and methods for biodiversity in its Regional Policy Statement for Taranaki, which is currently being reviewed. |

The purpose of this document was to seek early public feedback on the Taranaki Regional Council's review of its Regional Policy Statement for Taranaki.
In September 1994, the Regional Policy Statement for Taranaki was made operative under the Resource Management Act 1991. The Resource Management Act requires the Taranaki Regional Council to commence a review of the Regional Policy Statement not later than 10 years after the Statement became operative. To assist in this review, and given changes to have emerged since the adoption of the Regional Policy Statement, the Council has prepared the attached discussion document.
The discussion document examined how effective the Regional Policy Statement had been, what had changed over the last ten years since it was made operative in 1994 and what should be done differently in terms of the new Regional Policy Statement.
This report was the start to the public process reviewing the Regional Policy Statement for Taranaki. Following the receipt of submissions on this discussion document, the Taranaki Regional Council will commence the preparation of the Proposed Regional Policy Statement and there will be further opportunities for public input into this process. |
