The Regional Coastal Plan for Taranaki became operative on 6th August 1997.
This is the first regional coastal plan prepared by the Taranaki Regional Council under section 64 and the First Schedule to the Resource Management Act 1991. The Taranaki Regional Council adopted the Plan for Taranaki on 21 May 1997. The Minister of Conservation approved the Regional Coastal Plan for Taranaki by signing it in accordance with clause 19 of the First Schedule to the Resource Management Act 1991 on 6 August 1997. The Regional Coastal Plan for Taranaki became operative on 1 October 1997. The purpose of the regional coastal plan is to promote the sustainable management of natural and physical resources in relation to the coastal marine area. |

| The purpose of this report is to: examine trends in relation to resource consenting, pollution incidents and enforcement action prior to and subsequent to the adoption of the Regional Coastal Plan for Taranaki; identify any issues pertaining to the clarity and effectiveness of the regional rules in the Plan and whether there are any disputes over the interpretation of those rules; identify the potential implications arising from changes in law and other central government policy initiatives affecting the coast; and identify whether any changes to the Plan are necessary. |
