Those land management activities which may harm the environment are addressed by the Council's four regional plans. Regional Fresh Water Plan, Regional Air Quality Plan, Regional Coastal Plan and Regional Soil Plan. As well as non-regulatory methods they contain rules that may require resource consents for some activities.
Regional Soil plan
The issues of soil loss and soil health are addressed largely by non-regulatory methods, although there are limited permissive rules controlling vegetation disturbance over five hectares on land over 28 degrees.
